Discover how Images Shape our Mind, Choices, and Future

towards Visual Literacy

Change starts from individuals and spreads into societies.
Imag(in)e changing our life by making confident decisions that redefine our sense of identity and agency.
Imag(in)e owning our powerful voice, creating a lasting ripple effect of positive transformation that starts from us and extends beyond ourselves.

The Visual Literacy workshops I design and lead support us to uncover hidden biases and assumptions that limit our choices, our thoughts and actions.
The unique Visual Literacy methodology and tools developed within the UNESCO Chair empower us to see beyond the surface of images, words, and concepts.

The visuality approach of Visual Literacy I introduce is a unique and innovative methodology that explores how visuals impact our perceptions, emotions, and decision-making.

The Visual Literacy workshops assist participants to explore their visuality, the process of how they see and make sense. We focus on the origins of our perspectives and assumptions, which deeply impact how we engage with the past, how we perceive the present, and how we envision the future.

Specially designed Visual Literacy tools help us deconstruct stereotypes, unpack the stories behind the images, enrich understanding of the self and the world, and explore alternative paths for personal growth.

Our visuality is the regulator of our reality.

Welcome!

Hello! I am Dr Vicky Karaiskou, an Art Historian and Associate Professor at the Open University of Cyprus, where I direct the UNESCO Chair on “Visual Anticipation and Futures Literacy towards Visual Literacy”. Ι am passionate about exploring how visuals shape our perceptions, emotions, and actions, and define our lives. I am actively involved in international projects, conferences, teaching and writing, and, since 2022, I lead engaging Visual Literacy workshops across Europe and beyond, focusing on a broad variety of powerful topics such as identity, diversity, change, success, stereotypes, and more.
