Workshops
Why should I attend a Visual Literacy Workshop?
How we think influences how we expect the future to be. How we imagine the future influences our choices in the present.
Understanding how and why we established our mental patterns helps us achieve our goals both individually and in our communities.
With an aim to open to new ideas, possibilities and approaches the Visual Literacy methodology and tools explore how we got into the box of our perspectives and perceptions and who or what defined the lines that limit us.
More importantly, Visual Literacy methodology and tools support us discover how to get out of the box, recognize the opportunities for growth and innovation, and build a more fulfilling life.
Awareness of where the stories we say about ourselves and the world come from liberates our minds, instills agency and empowers us as individuals.
What skills and competencies will I acquire?
The Visual Literacy workshops are experiential, participatory and interactive, and support participants to acquire new skills and capabilities. Participants recognize how visuals of any kind determine our relations with the past, the ways we experience it in the present and carry it in the future.
How we think and how we feel creates what we are.
The Visual Literacy workshops support participants to:
- Understand the perceptions and assumptions by which they live, and how they think about the future
- Comprehend the tacit stories that images hold and realise how they regulate our emotions and dictate our (constant) learning process
- Deconstruct and reframe stereotypes, comprehend the impact of collective narratives and resist dominant narratives and trends
- Break long lasting conditionings and develop mind-sets that empower them both in their personal and professional lives
- Turn obstacles into creative opportunities and explore the many available possibilities that exist in the present and the future
- Curve their own unique path and navigate life with resilience and purpose
- Nourish empathy, welcome dialogue within and outside their communities, nurture inclusive values and ways of thinking above divisive national and cultural lines and labels.

Students: Explore and Make Sense
Young adults and students in elementary and high school need to beware of the subtle messages conveyed through the visuals that surround them and influence their thoughts, feelings and choices. These images can set barriers limiting their potential and future possibilities. The Visual Literacy workshops support them to explore and discover the hidden language of images and learn to decode their meaning.
To that end, the Greek Ministry of Education endorsed our project “The Detective game – Decoding images” that uses everyday images to build critical thinking and unlock the full potential of young adults and students for a purposeful and fulfilling life.
