Vicky Karaiskou

I am Dr Vicky Karaiskou, an Art Historian passionate about exploring how visuals in our daily lives shape our thoughts, feelings, and actions. I am Associate Professor at the Open University of Cyprus, where I also hold the position of Director of the UNESCO Chair in “Visual Anticipation and Futures Literacy towards Visual Literacy”. I have served as a visiting professor at renowned universities in Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, France, and Norway. In 2014, I was the Andrew J. Mellon Distinguished Visitor-in-Residence in the Fine Art at the Macalester College, MN, USA.

Since 2022 I lead engaging Visual Literacy workshops in Europe and the world exploring powerful topics, such as identity, diversity, change, success, stereotypes and more.

At the forefront of my research activity lies the exploration of visual literacy as visuality. That is, the process of how we see and make sense. I search the profound implications of cultural visual narratives, shedding light on how they shape our individual and collective memory, as well as societal perceptions. I am actively engaged in European projects, I present my research in international conferences, and my scholarly work is published by renowned scientific journals.
